Tanushree was born on 19th March 1984 in Jamshedpur, Bihar in a conservative Hindu Bengali family. Her father’s name is Tapan, who works for the Life Insurance Corporation of India. Being raised in strict norms, she grew up to become a shy and introvert till some point of her life, but later with positive exposures in life, she changed herself and she was successful to take herself to a level where people globally know her as a popular Indian actress. She has a degree in Commerce and had studied in Bombay based Brihan Maharashtrian College.
Initially, she was employed with Oracle Institute for 3 months in event management and market survey and report making and her assignments included ramp, print campaign, videos, & commercials and she worked as a stage artists doing concerts in various parts of India as well as abroad (Dubai).
Positive change in her attitude came when she was admitted in a boarding school in Pune where she did a degree in communication. During this time, she discovered change in her attitude and found her confident like never before, she was so encouraged and finally decided to herself to the big stage of Miss India pageant in 2002 and 2003, but she was unsuccessful to make it to the final group of contestants. She did not lose hope and finally she was crowned Miss India, replacing Nikita Anand, at the Bandra-Kurla Complex on March 27, 2004. She went on to participate in Femina Miss Universe 2004 pageant held in Quito, Ecuador and ended up amongst the top 10 finalists.
But then came the time, when she has to hand over the title to Amrita Thapar, Miss India (2005), that time she felt that she need to be on the limelight and finally she was motivated and decided to join Bollywood.
Career in Movies
She made her debut in Chocolate (2005) and simultaneously did Aashiq Banaya Apne (2005), however release of Chocolate was delayed and it was preceded by Aashiq Banaya Apne.
In 2006, she appeared in Abbas Mustan directed film 36 China Town where she made a guest appearance. She has done a dancer number in Bhagam Bhaag, and also acted in a Telugu movie Veerabhadra.
Year 2007 proved to be a hectic year for her as she did many films this year. In Raqeeb (2007), she played the role of Sophie. She appeared in another film Risk (2007) directed by Vishram Sawant featuring a cop's life. Her other movies of the year are Speed, Rokda, Dhol, Good Boy Bad Boy, Dus Kahaniyan and Mr. Fraud.
She has also anchored a Bengali show on Television titled Hoi Hullod. She is very bold and courageous girl and never hesitates to wear swimsuit and skimpy cloths for her roles and she knows the better way to handle herself in front of camera. She is a budding actress with much potential and talent who can contribute a lot to the Indian Cinema.
